These sessions are for anyone who is looking to learn the basics of Whitewater kayaking, Learn the Eskimo roll, or just wants to keep the rust off their paddling skills. There will be volunteer instructors at every session. Instruction is generally one on one, in a very casual and friendly atmosphere. Limited amounts of paddling gear will be available on a first come first serve basis. All locations are in large, clean heated pools with shower and locker room facilities. A per session fee will be collected to cover pool rental. Everybody is welcome! To sign up, please call by the night before if possible

Please note!

ALL boats brought to sessions MUST be thoroughly cleaned INSIDE AND OUT previous to sessions, or the boats will not be allowed in pools. There is no boat washing allowed at facilities!

Directions

From the South:

From Route 91, take Exit 18. Take /Route 691 to Route 66 towards Middletown. Follow Route 66 through Middletown to Main Street (big set of traffic lights). Turn right on Main Street and go to the end (with a green on your right and facing a church). Take a right following the signs to Route 17 South onto South Main Street. Follow South Main Street until you pass Iliano's Restaurant on your left. Take a left at the caution light. Follow the road (bearing a left at the fork) until the stop sign. Take a right onto Hunting Hill Ave. The high school will be on your left.

From the North:

Route 91 to Route 9 to Exit 11 (Randolph Road). See below for remainder of directions.

From I-84:

I-84 to Route 9 to Exit 11 (Randolph Road). See below for remainder of directions.

From I-95:

Take Route 9 Exit. Go on Route 9 North and take Exit 11 for Randolph Road. Take a left off the exit ramp and do down hill, up a hill and down another hill. As you go down the second hill, turn right at the second crossroads sign onto Hunting Hill Ave. The high school is on your right after a few blocks.

FROM I-95 NORTH (heading north, toward New Haven):
Take exit 27 (Lafayette Street). Follow the exit ramp to the intersection of Lafayette Street At light, turn RIGHT onto Lafayette Street. Proceed on Lafayette Street approximately four blocks. Continue straight on Lafayette to Linden Avenue. Turn RIGHT on Linden Avenue. Proceed three blocks to the intersection of Park Avenue. Turn RIGHT onto Park Avenue. Proceed one block to University Avenue. Turn LEFT onto University Avenue. WHEELER RECREATION CENTER is the third building on the right.

FROM I-95 SOUTH (heading south, toward NYC):

Take Exit 1 (Prospect Street/Myrtle Avenue). Proceed straight through the exit ramp light. At the third light, take a LEFT onto South Frontage Road. Proceed about 3-4 blocks on South Frontage Road to the intersection of Lafayette Street. At light, turn RIGHT onto Lafayette Street. Proceed on Lafayette Street approximately four blocks. Continue straight on Lafayette to Linden Avenue. Turn RIGHT on Linden Avenue. Proceed three blocks to the intersection of Park Avenue. Turn RIGHT onto Park Avenue. Proceed one block to University Avenue . Turn LEFT onto University Avenue. WHEELER RECREATION CENTER is the third building on the right.

FROM MERRITT PARKWAY (Route 15) SOUTH (heading towards NYC):
Take Exit 52, and bear left (south ramp) towards Routes 8 & 25. Bear left onto Routes 8 & 25 South Connector. Follow directions above from ROUTES 8 and 25.

FROM MERRITT PARKWAY (Route 15) NORTH (heading towards NEW HAVEN):
Take Exit 49 South to Route 8 & 25 Connector. Follow directions above from ROUTES 8 and 25.
